G Minor Excursion for Horn (2019)

G Minor Excursion for Horn began with an exploration of descending chromatic minor thirds as a means by which to modulate to distantly related keys. According to the Oxford Dictionary, the word “excursion” defines “a short journey or trip, especially one taken as a leisure activity.” For this reason, it felt an appropriate descriptor given that the piece was based on a fleeting harmonic exploration and itself is a relatively light, single-movement work.

Overture for Horn (2019)

Overture for Horn draws upon a variety of Hispanic musical styles and takes the form of an overture, presenting four unique and contrasting themes in a single movement work. The use of a title that doesn’t allude to the cultural background of the music allows for a greater surprise, and in a way, makes the musical styles less foreign to the classical setting.

Afro-Irish Sketches (2018)

Afro-Irish Sketches was inspired by the idea of merging traditional Irish and Nigerian folk music styles. It call upon melodic and rhythmic ideas evocative of either style, at times weaving in and out of either one.
